Founded in 2009, The Business Language Company provides structured language and communication training services to organisations in international and professional contexts. Our work is delivered as clearly defined training programmes and workshops, designed and led independently by our trainers and adapted to agreed objectives rather than embedded organisational roles. Training is provided externally — online, on-site, or in hybrid formats — with a focus on professional communication skills and measurable learning outcomes.
We work with a network of highly qualified, native-speaking trainers who provide language and communication training services on a professional, external basis. All trainers hold recognised teaching qualifications (such as Cambridge CELTA/DELTA or Trinity CertTESOL) and have relevant experience in business and professional contexts. This ensures that training content is grounded in real-world communication scenarios and delivered in a practical, application-oriented manner.
James Dowling was born in England and studied at the University of London before obtaining his English language teaching qualification from Cambridge University in 2002. He has provided language and communication training services in several countries and has been based in southern Germany since 2009.
The Business Language Company was founded in Munich and began by providing on-site business English group training services for several small and medium-sized enterprises in the local technology sector.
We were commissioned to deliver executive-level language coaching services to MAN Truck & Bus SE (now part of the Volkswagen Group). This marked our first engagement with a DAX-30 company. Since then, we have delivered training and coaching services for a range of large organisations, including Siemens, Infineon, BMW, and Allianz.
We expanded internationally at an early stage through a contract to deliver language and communication coaching services for State Street Corporation in Munich. Training was delivered to senior management audiences as part of a defined, external coaching engagement.
The University of Science and Technology in Munich commissioned BLC to deliver specialised individual language training services within an academic professional context. We have also delivered language training services for staff at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, as well as creative writing services for the University of Television and Film Munich.
During the pandemic, we transitioned our training delivery model to online formats, making remote delivery a standard option alongside on-site and hybrid formats.
The Business Language Company is now based near Ulm in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
